Learn how to connect your experience to universal truths that will resonate with readers; how to find your hook; and how to add juicy, expressive details that bring your story to life. This workshop is great for writers of all levels.
Workshop Timeline
- Milestone 1: First up, join acclaimed author Roxane Gay in Creative Writing: Crafting Personal Essays with Impact. In this 60-minute class, Roxane breaks down the process for creating a personal essay that resonates with an audience, with lessons exploring ways to identify your purpose, conduct research, reflect, revise, and more. Share your essay or work-in-progress in the Project Gallery by July 27th.
- Milestone 2: Next, join author Kathy Fish in Descriptive Writing: Crafting Vivid, Immersive Scenes. Now that you have a draft of your essay, enliven your work and create a “felt experience” for your readers. Kathy walks you through examples and shares practical advice for harnessing the power of the unexpected to create striking, unique descriptions in your work. Share your newly enlivened essay or simply an excerpt of your descriptive writing in the Project Gallery by August 10th.
