Today is the last day of my final Fast Flash workshop until I reopen registrations for my Fall/Winter workshops later this summer. It has been quite a ride. In addition to my teaching for the Mile High MFA program at Regis University, and my wonderful week of teaching the Roving Writers in Victoria, BC in March, I’ve run eight ten-day workshops in the last six months. I did the math. For each Fast Flash workshop, I read and comment on upwards of 150 flashes. So that times eight is 1,200 flashes!
But, honestly? It doesn’t feel like work at all. The writing that comes from these workshops is INCREDIBLE. Moving, startling, innovative, deep. I’m SO proud of the writers who work so hard and create such beauty. As anyone who has taken my workshop will tell you, it’s INTENSE. It’s challenging! But fun too. Anyway, I’m so happy to hear of the work that has gone on to get published, and nominated and chosen for such awards as the Pushcart Prize, Best Small Fictions, and Wigleaf Top 50. Congratulations to all of you!
Next weekend, I’m running the 3rd Annual Fast Flash Reunion Extravaganza. This is a FREE event of writing to prompts for everyone who has ever taken my workshop. If you haven’t heard from me about this yet, please let me know. Last year I think nearly 150 new stories were written in three days! I hope you all can join me for it. I hope to participate myself and it’s always a blast.
If you have not taken my workshop, but are interested in doing so, please sign up for my mailing list on the right hand side of this page. You’ll get information on all my upcoming workshops and the all-new Flash Fiction Retreats that Nancy Stohlman and I have launched (How does writing in Costa Rica sound? Or a castle in Italy?) Go HERE for more information!
Yours in gratitude,
Kathy
